Can Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta Achieve His form Without The Help Of Babidi?

One of the oldest debates that Dragon Ball fans have had for many years is can Vegeta unlocked Super Saiyan 2 on his own?

There’s a couple of different theories as to when he actually achieved it.

Vegeta Super Saiyan 2

Dragon Ball Majin Buu Saga

So to find out how Vegeta unlocked ssj2, let’s go back to the Majin Buu Saga. The first Theory I want to address is the one where a lot of fans think that Vegeta was able to unlock Super Saiyan 2. This was after Babidi had converted him into being Majin Vegeta.

A lot of dbz fans think this is the case and I can completely understand why they would think that. There are various reasons as to why I actually believe that is not the case though.

How Vegeta Achieved Super Saiyan 2?

Vegeta achieved his Super Saiyan 2 transformation throughout the 7 years period when Goku died under intense training.

Let’s go back to Dragon Ball Z when Majin Vegeta is screaming at Goku telling him why he allowed Bobbidi to convert them into Majin Vegeta. He brings up what happened with Spopovich.

Vegeta overheard Mr. Satan talked about how it didn’t make any sense that Spopovich was so powerful in this tournament.

Considering that he was pretty much a job guy in the last tournament, and had virtually no power at all. Mr. Satan ran through him like a hot knife through butter, and Vegeta was curious about how this was even possible.

Then of course when Babidi showed up, Vegeta knew that when Babidi converts you into Majin. Vegeta took control of his that Babidi granted power boost.

During Goku’s fight with Yakon that was the first time that we saw Goku transform into a Super Saiyan 2. We saw it for just a brief second and Vegeta was Marvel at that.

However, we know he was surprised that Goku was able to be so much stronger than he was in the past.

This, of course, lead folks to believe that Vegeta could not achieve Super Saiyan 2 without the help of Babidi. So without Babidi’s help, Vegeta could not get the Boost to close the power gap between him and Goku.

This is why some people believe that the only way to do that is for Vegeta to have become Super Saiyan 2. However, I beg to differ on that somewhat, even though Babidi’s upgrade did indeed give Vegeta a boost significantly.

There’s actually more evidence to prove that Vegeta was a Super Saiyan 2 way before this. All Babidi did was make Vegeta stronger to compete with Goku during their fight.

There is absolutely no indication that Babidi’s powerup can give you new transformations and new forms because no matter what you have to remember.

Super Saiyan 2 is not just an upgrade in power it’s a brand new transformation despite it looking a lot like SS1 just with thinner hair beads and usually a little bit more lightning.

There was not even hinted that Babidi can give you a new transformation. There’s even more evidence of this. Earlier in the arc when Gohan transforms into a Super Saiyan 2 in the tournament in front of the Kai and everybody. Gohan’s power except for of course Vegeta.

Dragon Ball Z Gohan Vs Deborah Fight

Vegeta mentioned that Gohan may be strong but he’s nowhere near as being as strong as he was when he fought Cell. The question is why would Vegeta say this why would Vegeta not be so in awe or so shocked at Gohan?

Why would Vegeta who previously had trouble catching up to Goku and Gohan during the Cell Saga?

Super Saiyans vs Cell

Why would he now just think nothing of Gohan and brush him off? I find it very hard to believe that Vegeta would not even be remotely fazed by Super Saiyan 2 if it wasn’t already something he has previously achieved.

There is even more evidence that comes during the fight with Gohan and Deborah.

During the fight, Gohan is having trouble with the Deborah, and Vegeta and Goku both remark that Gohan has kind of lost his Edge. Because he was not practicing, he has not been training like he previously did.

He’s been quoted as Rocky three civilized and in some ways. Some people would say Vegeta maybe a little bit civilized as well because he did take care of trunks and Bulma during those 7 years.

However, the guy still trained his ass off we all know that and we all know that Vegeta no matter which way you slice it is a fighting Prodigy. Even the God of destruction Beerus said so in Battle of God and we see himself was taking under the wing of Whis.

So that should tell you just how impressive Vegeta is but back to that fight. Vegeta remarks that Deborah should be no problem for Gohan. Yet Dabora is a problem for Gohan, Vegeta makes it seems like he could take out Deborah with no problem at all.

Okay that’s a fair point but then I’m thinking, wait a minute, earlier when Goku and the others scrapped with the Deborah for just a very brief time.

Deborah was fighting them off pretty damn well, so what does that tell me? That tells me that Vegeta would have to transform in order to beat Deborah.

Do you Think Vegeta Underestimated Deborah?

I do believe if he did transform he would beat Deborah rather easily. Do you think that Goku and Vegeta were just underestimating Deborah or that Deborah was holding back?

I don’t think so, I think the Deborah approved with his underestimation of Majin Buu that he’s not a very smart fighter and nowhere near on the level of Goku and Vegeta.

So I do think that Goku and Vegeta were on point when they said that Gohan should be able to take out the Deborah.

Because Gohan didn’t train, he’s weaker so what does that tell you that tells you that Vegeta himself. He doesn’t even sweat Gohan anymore and that’s a huge power lead considering that Gohan was the strongest fighter in the world just seven years earlier.

I find it very hard to believe that Vegeta trains himself so that his Super Saiyan 1 could surpass Gohan ssj2. Even though in Battle of Gods for a brief second, we do see Vegeta slightly surpassed Goku.

Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta During Seven Years Period

Based upon all the evidence that we’ve gathered here, is that Vegeta unlocks Super Saiyan 2 during the seven-year break in between Cell and Majin Buu. We know for a fact that Goku is able to unlock the SSj2 form in the other worlds as well as learn how to do SSj3.

He becoming really powerful, probably a lot stronger than you could ever imagine, because the second time he went back in the room he already had knowledge of all the different grades of Super Saiyan levels.

So he knew what Goku and Gohan training methods were, and he knew about Trunks is super buff ultra form.

So he already had knowledge going in about how to do it and as a result of that, he didn’t quite achieve Super Saiyan 2 until after they sell games were over.

I think we pretty much realize that Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta was training his ass off while Gohan wasn’t, but clearly, he didn’t surpass Goku.

Unfortunately, we never saw or learned exactly how Goku was able to figure out how to do Super Saiyan 3.

How did Vegeta achieve his Super Saiyan 2 form? Let me know down below.
