When it comes to watching and understanding the dragon ball series a lot of new fans find it difficult to know where to start.
Well, that’s mainly because there is a lot of other series they have to watch to get a full understanding.
However, don’t worry too much, today I will share with you on this post, about the question many of you have and that’s ”How to watch dragon ball from start to finish.”
And also, how to orderly watch dragon ball anime so it does not become too confusing.
So, if I was to watch dragon ball again this is exactly how I would do it.
First of all, what you would want to do is read the Manga first if you can. In my opinion, this is how the story is told the best.
Viz manga is a great place to start reading and consume the original and official manga content online.
The manga cuts straight to the point and it does not take one million years to start the episode and the art quality is awesome.
So if you are able to learn more about dragon ball and want to become an expert in the anime read the manga first.
However, if you don’t have access to the manga there is no problem starting with the anime version.
Which Way to Watch Dub or Sub?
Now, the first thing you would want to consider is whether you want to watch it in dub or whatever language wish, or you want to watch it in Japanese.
The Japanese version is the original so there no way around that. However, watching it dub or sub will also be great.
I personally prefer to watch it in English and once you’ve done that, you can go ahead and watch dragon ball.
Dragon Ball tells the history of Goku when he was a little kid that got send to earth all the way to when he becomes a young adult.
Where to Watch Dragon Ball Series?
You can watch all Dragon Ball Series and episodes on the US Funimation Website in either (Sub or Dub) or Canada Funimation (Sub or Dub)
So after you watched all of Dragon Ball you then move on to the movies.
With the dragon ball movies, there are a lot of things you could learn about that was not mention or had screen time in the anime.
So when you watch all the dragon ball z movies you will have a general understanding of most characters.
List of Dragon Ball Movies to Watch
There are 4 known dragon ball movies to watch if you have not already and these are:
- Curse Of The Blood Rubies
- Sleeping Princess in Devils Castle
- Mystical Adventure
- Path to Power
So the reason I placed the movies after is that most of them are none cannon and they don’t fit in with the main storyline of dragon ball.
Nonetheless, the movies are like fan service that tells the story in a shorter way. So the best experience is to watch the episodes first and then the movies.
How to watch the Dragon Ball Z series?
You can watch all episodes of Dragon Ball Z Kai on the Adult Swin website.
So when it comes to dragon ball z you will have a lot of opinions to watch. Currently, you have Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Z Kai.
What Is The Difference Between Dragon Ball Z Kai and Dragon Ball Z?
The differences between these two are that Dragon Ball Z Kai is a shorter version of Dragon Ball Z. This main that is cut out most of the lengthy fillers you would see before a fight. The Kai version is much closer to the manga and has the original soundtracks of the anime.
However, I prefer to watch the original Dragon Ball Z version even though it has a lot of fillers and most fights take forever. Nonetheless, it’s still the best option in my view.
So once to decided and start to watch Dragon Ball Z, you would have to stop when you’re finished watching episode 86 or 42 for the Kai version.
This is where you should start watching the Tv special Bardock the father of Goku. Technically, you could watch this before everything else from when Goku was just a little kid.
However, keep in mind, there are a ton of spoilers in the tv special Bardock that you are supposed to find out later.
Then after that, you should continue watching Dragon Ball Z episode series. Then once again you stop and Dragon Ball Z episode 165 or 83 for the Kai version.
Here’s where you have to watch a Tv special called ”The History Of Trunks” then you continue watching, however, you would have to stop again after Dragon Ball Z episode 288 or 165 for the Kai version.
After this, you would have to watch Dragon Ball Super.
Well, it’s because all of Dragon Ball Super until now happen before the end of Dragon Ball Z and this will help you get a full understanding of where and how Dragon Ball Super started.
Once you are now done watching Dragon ball Super to the end with Ultra Instinct Goku Vs Jiren.
You would now have to watch Dragon Ball Super Broly.
Dragon Ball Super Broly Release Date?
Dragon Ball Super Broly was scheduled to air in theaters on 14 November 2018, however, it got postponed to January 16, 2019, later the following year in the USA.
Now after you finished watching Dragon Ball Super Broly, you would have to go back to Dragon Ball Z and finish watching the few last episodes. Starting with episode 289 or 166 if you are watching the Kai version.
So now, with all that back a forth, you finally finished the main story. However, now you need to watch all the movies.

Overall, some of these movies are great and some are not so great. Nonetheless, the option would be available to you if you want to watch Dragon Ball GT.
Dragon Ball GT is none cannon so you don’t really have to watch it. However, in Dragon Ball GT are a few transformations and characters that I really like.
So if you were to watch Dragon Ball GT, you would just start watching until the end without any interruption or confusion.
Then after you have finished watching Dragon Ball GT, you would move on the watching the movies ”The Heroes Legacy”
So, that is folks, there a ton of things to watch and you are definitely gonna need a lot of time to complete all these movies and episodes.
However, if you are a true fan it’s gonna be all fun to watch, and at the end of the day, you would have a piece of expert knowledge about Dragon Ball up until this current moment without confusion.
